According to several sources, a Kenyan senator who presented to the session in a white suit dyed red was expelled from the Senate. This incident appears to have been linked to the menstrual rights campaign.

Government coalition member is expected to introduce a bill on Wednesday that would provide free sanitary pads as part of the fight against period poverty.

Senators reportedly adjourned Tuesday afternoon’s session to draw the President’s attention to Ms. Orvoba’s “inappropriate clothing”.

The senator, however, objected and said, “I am amazed that someone would stand here and argue that the House has been degraded because a lady has had her periods.”

“Getting your period is never wrong… In a report by the BBC, a speaker was cited as saying, “Senator Gloria, I sympathize with you because you are going through the normal activities of menstruation. You have ruined your magnificent suit, and I’m asking you to leave so that you can go change and return with clothes that are not stained.

Senator Orwoba verified the incident to reporters outside the chambers, stating, “Unfortunately I have been booted out because I’m on my period and we are not meant to display our period when we are on our period and that is the sort of period stigma girls and women are having outside.
