After “many inexplicable deaths” from hemorrhagic fever, Cameroon has banned travel along its border with Equatorial Guinea, according to the health ministry’s statement on Friday.

According to a statement, the limits were put in place “because of the significant risk of importation of this disease and in order to detect and respond to any instances at an early stage.”

The statement that was released states that investigations are ongoing and that epidemiological surveillance has been stepped up with the help of experts from the World Health Organization and the Atlanta Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Equatorial Guinea stated that nine fatalities had been reported as a result of an “exceptional epidemiological scenario” that had occurred in the preceding few weeks in the Kie-Ntem province’s Nsok Nsomo region.

The Kie-Ntem region of Equatorial Guinea, which borders Cameroon, said approximately 20 deaths on Thursday in a statement from the health ministry of Cameroon.

According to a report by the district’s health chief, Ngu Fankam Roland, the “non-identified illness” made nosebleeds, fever, joint discomfort, and other maladies that resulted in death within a few hours.
