In Kenya, stone tools dating back 2.9 million years have been discovered thanks to research by national scientists.

These tools were used by early humans to butcher hippos and plant material. The tools are part of a set known as the Oldowan toolbox, which is from the Stone Age.

One of the scientists explained that the research was mainly focused on the Nyayanga site and the Homa Peninsula, in order to understand the history of these two sites, and this is where these tools were found.

Professor Thomas Plummer, an anthropologist at Queens College in New York explained that these tools were a technological revolution in the Stone Age. The tools that existed before the Oldowan toolbox were less sophisticated and came from the Lomekwi 3 site.

The Oldowan toolbox was widely used in Africa and other parts of the world before the arrival of the first axes.
