The US website Bloomberg News has reported on a letter in which leading South African business groups have called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to improve the performance of the government, which has failed to deliver on its promises of economic reform.

The letter, dated 24 January, was signed by Business Unity South Africa and Business Leadership South Africa, which denounced the performance of the current Ramaphosa-led government, especially on energy, political and security issues.

The President of South Africa took power in 2018 and won a second term last December on promises to root out corruption and accelerate economic growth. His performance has been criticized by the opposition, business, and party unions, who believe he has failed to establish a successful strategy for stable economic growth.

A cabinet reshuffle is expected soon. The Minister of Transport, who has an executive role in the ruling party, is expected to be replaced. The position of Minister of Public Service and Administration is also vacant.

The business group added that many investors do not believe in their projects because of the energy instability due to the power cuts that occur very often.
