South Africa Health Department called for vigilance after recording two confirmed cases of cholera on Sunday.

The two recorded cases came from Malawi, which is experiencing a cholera outbreak that has killed more than 1,000 people since January last year.

The Ministry of Health revealed that a contact of one of the infected persons was transferred to the hospital on February 4, after showing some symptoms, such as diarrhea and dehydration, and it is considered a possible case.

A cholera patient is exposed to acute diarrhea caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, which is spread through contaminated food and water, and can be fatal if left untreated.
