Local media have reported that Liberian President George Weah has received a nomination from his party in front of his supporters in the capital Monrovia, knowing that he is a candidate for the October presidential elections.

The leader of the ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah K. Morlu, said the party has confidence in the president’s leadership and that the party will always be with him as long as he continues to lead the country.

In a speech on the occasion, President George Weah, a 56-year-old former footballer, presented a record of achievements over the past five years.

A few days ago, the president declared, in his annual speech, his candidacy for a second consecutive term and promised a “term rich in opportunity, a term for development but also for consolidation of gains”.

Nevertheless, his detractors blame him for having “kept very few of his promises” and for being “far from the reality of the citizens who are debating the rise in prices, the shortage of basic necessities, etc.”.
