A week after a terrorist attack in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that left at least 23 people dead, new similar attacks targeted villages attributed to the ADF, a militia affiliated with the Islamic State group, killing at least 15 people on Sunday.

The attacks targeted three villages in Ituri and a town in the neighboring province of North Kivu.

The 15 January bombing of a Pentecostal church in North Kivu, which killed at least 14 people, was also attributed to the ADF.

The ADF is Ugandan rebels and is considered one of the most deadly armed groups in eastern DRC.

The DRC government put in place police and military officers in place of civilian administrators in May 2021 in North Kivu and Ituri in an attempt to stop the violence caused by these terrorist groups.
