The French news agency (AFP) has carried out a report on the health system in the village of Souloufeta, which has a population of around 100 and is located in the Aïr mountains of northern Niger.
The village has an isolated and inaccessible clinic, especially in bad weather conditions. Thus, patients have to travel miles into the mountains if they need to be treated in a larger health facility like Iférouane, knowing that there is a lack of roads as reported by an ambulance driver, who said that he is forced to change the tyres every day because of the sharp stones.
This clinic is a small concrete building with two empty rooms and no sanitary facilities.
Indeed, the nurse in charge of this centre said that there is a lack of doctors and medical equipment, electricity, a refrigerator, and a fence wall, which forces some cases to go to the nearest hospitals and some die on the way.
It should be recalled that the WHO has already indicated that the health situation in Niger is worrying.
