South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, maintains that Cyril Ramaphosa will remain president of the ANC and South Africa.

Speaking at her department’s year-end briefing, Pandor said there won’t be a different president in 2023 unless something surprising happens.

Outlining the country’s achievements, Pandor announced that from 1 January, South Africa will assume the role of chair of the Brics group of developing economies, alongside Brazil, Russia, India and China, explaining that the Brics countries are Africa’s largest trading partners and are making a significant contribution to growth in Africa.

Pandor also stressed “South Africa’s active role in the United Nations”, calling for reform in the international organisation, which remains “the only viable mechanism through which the world community must strive for peace and common development”.
