Senegal Launches New Space Agency to Explore the Universe

Senegalese President Macky Sall has announced the creation of a new space agency, which he believes will pave the way for further discoveries of the universe.

Senegalese entrepreneur Sall recently disclosed his plans for the creation of a space agency ahead of the premiere of the documentary “Star chasers of Sénégal.” Sall revealed that he had been in discussions with Maram Kaïré, a prominent Senegalese astronaut, for over a year regarding the proposed agency. This news is expected to generate significant interest in the global space industry and the African continent as a whole.

Kaïré will head the newly formed agency, which will be supported by Europe and the USA, the documentary, produced by Ruth Berry and co-produced by U.S. science television “Nova-PBS” and “Terra Mater” of Vienna, Austria, showcases Senegal’s contribution to NASA’s scientific missions.

For Sall, Africa must be involved in the “adventure of understanding our universe and the solar system.”, he added that thanks to space studies, they are discovering new realities and knowledge every day for a better understanding of our place in the universe.

The Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, Cheikh Oumar Anne, reiterated the country’s plans to launch a nanosatellite in the third quarter of 2023, the country had previously set a two-year timeline to build and launch its first satellite in 2019.
