Indigo Publications, a press group, has condemned the unjustified detention of its special envoy in Ethiopia. French journalist Antoine Galindo, working for Africa Intelligence, a publication within the group, has been held in Addis Ababa since February 22nd, 2024, according to his media outlet.

Dispatched to the capital on February 13, Antoine Galindo was covering the African Union summit and Ethiopian current affairs. On February 22nd at 3:55 PM local time, he was arrested by plainclothes security officers and appeared before a judge on February 24th.

He was accused of “conspiring to create chaos in Ethiopia.” His detention has been extended until March 1, the next hearing date. Indigo Publications has expressed outrage at “this unjust arrest, which also constitutes a serious violation of press freedom,” stating that their journalist had all necessary authorizations and demanding his immediate release.
