After the cancellation of the election postponement in Senegal, 16 out of 19 presidential candidates have declined a proposed dialogue with the head of state, just over a week ago.

The postponement was announced on February 3rd by Macky Sall and then voted on by deputies on February 5th. “We oppose any dialogue on this issue and demand that a date be set before April 2nd,” said one of these 16 candidates, Boubacar Camara, in a press conference.

In a separate statement, the civil society collective Aar Sunu Election denounced an “attempt at diversion through the invitation to an inappropriate dialogue (which) is unacceptable.” In an interview with several Senegalese media outlets on February 22nd, the outgoing president indicated that he would leave office on April 2nd, at the end of his second term, but did not announce a new date for the election originally scheduled for February 25th”.
