France Urges Rwanda to Halt Support for M23 Rebels in Eastern DRC

France has voiced deep concern over the escalating situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), specifically addressing the resurgence of the M23 rebel group’s activities. In a government statement released on Tuesday, France called upon Rwanda to immediately cease its alleged support for the M23 rebels.

Despite Rwanda’s denial of backing the M23 insurgents, international entities including the United States, the DR Congo government, and a UN group of experts have pointed to evidence suggesting otherwise. The accusations include allegations of financial support and direct involvement in combat alongside the rebel group.

Expressing condemnation for the continuation of M23 offensives allegedly supported by Rwanda, France urged for a cessation of such activities and the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from Congolese territory. The statement underscores the growing international pressure on Rwanda to address its alleged involvement in the conflict.

France reiterated its support for regional mediation efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the region, emphasizing the need for concerted diplomatic action to bring about lasting peace and stability.
