Ethiopia: Chief of Intelligence Services Becomes New Vice Prime Minister

Ethiopian lawmakers on Thursday approved the appointment of the head of Ethiopian intelligence services, Temesgen Tiruneh, as the new Vice Prime Minister, replacing Demeke Mekonnen, who held the position since 2012, observed an AFP journalist.

The deputies also endorsed the appointment of former Ethiopian Ambassador to the United Nations, Taye Atske Selassie, current diplomatic advisor to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a portfolio also held by Mr. Demeke since 2020.
