In Dakar, mobile data has been disrupted since 9:00 Coordinated Universal Time, coinciding with the opposition’s call for a gathering in front of the National Assembly. The assembly is set to review a proposal from the Senegalese Democratic Party regarding the postponement of the presidential elections.

On Saturday, February 3rd, just hours before the start of the electoral campaign in Senegal, President Macky Sall announced an indefinite postponement of the presidential election originally scheduled for February 25, 2024.

The suspension of mobile internet services raises concerns about freedom of communication and information dissemination amid heightened political tensions. The opposition’s call for a rally and the government’s response through the internet shutdown underscores the deepening political rift in the country.
