As anticipation builds for the imminent release of the final list of candidates authorized to participate in the presidential election this Saturday, the F24 civil society platform is raising concerns. With over forty appeals awaiting adjudication by the Constitutional Council, the platform urges the council to ensure credibility and transparency in this crucial stage of the electoral process.
More than forty appeals have been submitted to the Constitutional Council, primarily centered around the scrutiny of endorsements—44,231 voter signatures required to validate a candidacy. Many candidates have voiced objections, citing errors in the process. Faced with this unprecedented number of appeals, the F24 civil society platform expresses deep concern.
“Maintaining respect for the electoral schedule as an imperative, F24 vehemently denounces the serious shortcomings observed during the endorsement verification process and emphasizes that ensuring a peaceful, sincere, and transparent election on February 25 requires an end to irregularities,” explained Mamadou Mbodj, F24 Coordinator.
The civil society organization calls on the Constitutional Council to ensure fair resolution of all disputes. Additionally, F24 proposes a set of measures to guarantee a credible election, such as the publication of the consolidated electoral register and the provision of an electoral map with all designated polling stations for citizens to access.
In a significant move, the civil society platform announces the recruitment of 150,000 volunteers to be deployed across the country’s polling stations, working towards ensuring transparency in this presidential election. This initiative reflects the commitment of F24 to actively contribute to the integrity of the electoral process in Senegal.
