Regional Diplomatic Efforts to Halt Gaza Conflict

South Africa summoned the Ambassador of Israel to engage in discussions regarding what has been characterized as recent “regrettable behavior” associated with the conflict in Gaza, as announced by the Foreign Ministry in Pretoria on Friday.

On Thursday, Eliav Belotsercovsky, Israel’s Ambassador, was served with the directive, as disclosed by the ministry; however, specific details regarding his conduct were not elaborated upon.

The South African statement emphasized Ambassador Belotsercovsky’s obligation to adhere to the principles outlined in the Vienna Conventions. These conventions confer specific privileges and responsibilities upon heads of diplomatic missions, foremost among them being the recognition of sovereign decisions made by the host nation.
