A government representative has reported that a tragic incident occurred in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, resulting in the loss of five lives and injuries to eight individuals. The catastrophe involved the collapse of a building.

The factors leading to the building’s collapse remain uncertain, and the exact number of occupants at the time of the incident, which took place on Wednesday morning in Rufisque, a suburb of Dakar, has not been definitively established.

Birame Faye, an official from the interior ministry present at the site, confirmed that five deceased individuals were recovered from the debris by firefighters on Wednesday. Additionally, eight survivors were promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Faye conveyed that investigations are presently in progress to ascertain the root cause of the collapse. Local residents have speculated that the incident might be related to ongoing construction in a neighboring structure. Senegal’s construction sector, experiencing rapid growth, suffers from inadequate regulation and frequently disregards safety measures.
