The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pointed fingers at the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for causing a setback in the crucial Jeddah talks, aimed at bringing an end to the protracted conflict that has plagued the nation for months.

The ministry’s statement, published by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Saturday, squarely attributes the stalling of negotiations to the unwavering attitude of the RSF, a paramilitary force in Sudan.

The Jeddah talks, facilitated by the Saudi Arabian and United States governments, have been pivotal in pursuing a pathway to peace. The Sudanese Foreign Ministry expressed its deep appreciation for the extensive efforts made by both countries in sponsoring and facilitating the talks, highlighting their dedication to achieving a successful resolution.

During the course of these negotiations, significant achievements were reached, including the signing of the Jeddah Declaration, which seeks to protect civilians, along with a short-term ceasefire agreement and humanitarian arrangements. These developments were seen as a glimmer of hope for a nation weary from violence and uncertainty.

Such flagrant disregard for the negotiated terms has led to the regrettable impasse in the Jeddah talks. As a result, the Sudanese military delegation decided to return to their homeland, expressing disappointment at the lack of cooperation from the rebel forces.

Nonetheless, the Sudanese government remains resolute in its pursuit of peace. The Foreign Ministry affirmed that the delegation stands ready to return to the Jeddah platform if the Saudi and US mediators can successfully navigate the obstacles and challenges that have hindered the progress of the talks.

As Sudan continues to grapple with the complexities of its conflict, the hope for lasting peace remains strong. The Jeddah talks serve as a beacon of possibility, and with earnest dedication from all involved parties, a harmonious and stable future for the nation might yet be within reach.
