Ambassador Hajji Abbey Walusimbi, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, engaged in discussions with Deputy Head of Mission in Qatar, Ambassador Muhammad Kezaala, focusing on labor externalization.

During their meeting, Ambassador Walusimbi expressed that Qatar is no longer just a workplace for Ugandans, but it is considered a second home. With the establishment of the Ugandan Embassy in 2019, the Ugandan community in Qatar has grown to between 5000 to 6000 individuals, further solidifying the bond between the nations.

Amidst the discussions, matters concerning the well-being and challenges faced by Ugandans working in Qatar were also addressed. Ambassador Walusimbi commended President Museveni’s commitment to upholding the dignity of Ugandan workers abroad. To ensure the welfare of Ugandans working overseas, particularly in Qatar, the government is establishing a robust monitoring unit that will oversee living and working conditions, as well as handle any disputes that may arise.

Furthermore, Ambassador Walusimbi encouraged Ugandans in Qatar to act as ambassadors, promoting Uganda’s positive image in their workplaces and companies. He emphasized that this approach would foster stronger ties between Qatar and Uganda, promoting tourism, trade, and investment opportunities.

Deputy Head of Mission in Qatar, Ambassador Kezaala, expressed gratitude for the Ugandan government’s ongoing support and guidance to the embassy. He highlighted the positive impact of having an official presence, allowing them to provide consular services, document attestation, and welfare activities for the Ugandan community in Qatar, ultimately strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations economically and culturally.
