A 33-year-old man was arrested in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, just hours after the fatal shooting of off-duty police officer Terrence Kutullo Makgatho in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. The assailants, driving a bronze Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI, targeted the officer earlier that day. The Hawks conducted a thorough investigation, leading them to the suspect’s location in Johannesburg, where they tactically intercepted the vehicle and made the arrest.
Upon searching the suspect’s residence in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, police discovered a firearm believed to have been used in the murder, along with a car, a significant amount of cash, and a cellphone. Further investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect is linked to any other crimes.
The swift apprehension of the alleged cop killer in a different province showcased the efficiency and determination of the authorities in pursuing justice for the fallen officer. The suspect is set to face charges of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and ammunition in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court, with the possibility of additional charges being added.
