Chérubin Okende, a Congolese deputy, was found dead the day after he disappeared from Kinshasa. He was discovered in his car, riddled with bullets, on one of the main avenues of the capital after being shot.

According to his party, he had been missing since Wednesday afternoon. Chérubin Okende, former Minister of Transport, left the government in December 2022. The judge of the Constitutional Court was expected to see him this Thursday concerning his declaration of assets at the time of his departure.

According to relatives, he went to the Constitutional Court on Wednesday to file a request to postpone this meeting. He proposed in his letter to move this interview to July 14th. That’s when he disappeared. According to an official of his party, Together, with his bodyguard, after delivering the letter, would have noticed the absence of Chérubin Okende and his vehicle.

The car was found in the early morning on an artery in the city of Kinshasa. With a body sitting in the driver’s seat, body riddled with bullets. The scientific police intervened in the morning for the readings and the body was evacuated to the Kinshasa morgue where his family came to recognize him.

An investigation has been opened and a statement from his political party is expected in the next few hours, but this death has already aroused many reactions in the Congolese political class.
