Since Monday 10th July, the party has held an extraordinary congress to choose a successor to its founder, Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas, who died the day after the March 2021 presidential election.

Twice, before the opening of the work, the 748 UDH-Yuki delegates observed a minute of silence in memory of their former leader, who died in March 2021. Then taking the floor in a speech interrupted by cheers, Pascal Ngouanou, first vice-president, set the tone for this party which has experienced strong internal dissension over the past two years.

“We must renovate our party, and give ourselves new leaders. We have a duty to grow, consolidate and develop this party. Let’s make UDH-Yuki not a business”. said Pascal Ngouanou.

With its seven deputies in the National Assembly and around thirty local and municipal elected officials, the UDH-Yuki claims first place in the opposition. The party aims to obtain a few seats in the senatorial elections on August 20th.

Activists are striving for more. “We must elect a president who will lead the party to the presidency and bring the changes that the people are hoping for”, said one of them. “We need to make sure that the Congolese people find themselves in a better position”, continued another. “It is my dream to see more deputies in the future and for the highest office to be filled with people that have the same goals and values. I hope that this dream will come true”, said the third.

Ambitions justified by the previous results of the party. Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas had brought him to second position, during the presidential elections of 2016 and 2021.
