Sudanese Army has launched heavy artillery shelling on positions occupied by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) east of Khartoum, according to sources reported to “Sky News Arabia” on Saturday. The capital city’s skies witnessed intense reconnaissance and warplane flights as the battles unfolded.

The battlefield has witnessed significant advancements in favor of the army, following the Rapid Support Forces’ announcement of their control over the Central Reserve Forces camp days ago.

Since Friday, the army has carried out extensive airstrikes along with intense artillery shelling, described as the most intense, targeting wide areas of the capital, including the Radio and Television buildings in Omdurman, as well as the streets of Sayed Ali, Khartoum Bahri, the Presidential Palace vicinity, and the Sixty Street in Khartoum.

Military experts suggest that the airstrikes and fierce artillery shelling on Rapid Support Forces positions may be followed by special army forces conducting combing operations to secure and establish control.

Eyewitnesses report that the army’s special forces have been expanding their presence from the Engineers’ Armory, stretching north and west into the vicinity of the Forty Street and Abbasia area, after intense battles with the Rapid Support Forces. The RSF had announced their resistance against an attack by the Sudanese Army on the Kordofan area, north of Khartoum Bahri.

The political landscape remains cloudy with no ceasefire or peace agreement on the horizon, as previous truces did not receive sufficient respect from both sides.
