Official data revealed, that tourism revenues, at the end of last May, amounted to 40.63 billion dirhams, exceeding the level reached in the same period before the pandemic. It is expected that these revenues over the current year will exceed 107 billion dirhams.

These data came in the monthly report of the Exchange Office on indicators of foreign exchange, which confirmed that tourism revenues jumped at the end of last May to 40.63 billion dirhams, compared to 21.24 billion dirhams in the same period last year.

The same report stated that these revenues exceeded the level they reached in the first five months of the years 2019 and 2020, as they were, respectively, in the range of 28.56 billion dirhams and 19.82 billion dirhams.

Bank Al-Maghrib expects, as indicated on June 20th, after its council convened, that travel revenues will increase by 14.9 percent during the current year, to reach 107.6 billion dirhams.

It is worth noting that Morocco has developed a program aimed at attracting 17.5 million tourists by 2026, creating about 200 thousand direct and indirect jobs, and reaching the threshold of 120 billion dirhams in hard currency revenues from the sector, compared to 93 billion dirhams last year.
