Referendum

In Mali, still no results for the constitutional referendum on Sunday, but a provisional participation rate, of 38%. This was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Independent Authority for the Management of Elections (Aige), which had summoned the press to Bamako.

Malians were awaiting the results of the referendum. They were also waiting for explanations on the accusations of massive fraud or on the controversy surrounding the vote in the Kidal region. It took place throughout the region according to Aige, nowhere according to election observers.

No details on these points during the Aige press briefing, but a few initial lessons, according to the Independent Election Management Authority, the turnout is “at this stage” at 38%.

Aige specifies that more than 24,000 of the 24,416 polling stations have already been processed, not counting the soldiers: they had voted in advance a week earlier, from June 11th, but the counting of their votes is taking place at the same time as the general ballot and has not yet been taken into account.

The Electoral Observation Mission estimated a 28% participation rate, however, 38% of people participated, making a 10-point difference. Maître Moustapha Cissé, president of Aige, believes that the participation rate could still increase as new results come in.
