The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, is anticipated to submit his resignation as a lawmaker during today’s session on the House floor. This move comes as he prepares to assume his new role as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila’s appointment as the Chief of Staff was announced by Tinubu on June 2, alongside other key appointments. However, while some officials have already assumed their respective positions, Gbajabiamila’s official duties as the Chief of Staff are yet to commence, raising concerns about managing both roles simultaneously.

Considering Gbajabiamila’s recent participation in the voting process for House leadership and the expiration of his tenure as Speaker on Tuesday, questions have arisen about the logistics of his dual responsibilities. As a consequence of his resignation, the Independent National Electoral Commission will need to organize a fresh election to select a new representative for Surulere Federal Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives.
