In Senegal, President Macky Sall visited on June 5th, 2023 the Caliph General of the Muslim Brotherhood of the Mourides according to local media. “An hour-long one-on-one”, according to the newspaper “Le Soleil”.
No statement at the end of this meeting, but it comes after violence which officially killed 16 people in the country, after the conviction of opponent Ousmane Sonko to two years in prison. Religious leaders are traditionally mediators in the country. The Caliph General of the Mourides notably intervened during the deadly riots of March 2021.
