Morocco re-elected itself as the only Arab and African country on the IALA Council, alongside 23 Member States, for the period 2023-2027 at the IALA’s 14th General Assembly and 20th Conference held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Morocco, as a national member of IALA, applied, among 26 other Member States, for a seat on the IALA Council, according to a press release from the Ministry of Equipment and Water, which highlighted the effective participation of a strong Moroccan delegation in the work of the Association’s Conference and General Assembly.

The Ministry of Public Works and Water and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad jointly conducted a promotional campaign.

This re-election of the Kingdom of Morocco reflects the confidence it enjoys in the international maritime community and constitutes international recognition of the progress made by Morocco in the port and maritime sector, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

The same press release concluded that Morocco will continue to work to support the actions carried out by the IALA, in particular by making the safety of maritime navigation in Africa one of the priorities of the strategy pursued by this association.
