The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albaris, hastened to hold a meeting with the Greek Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, following the controversy that arose about the Moroccanness of the occupied cities of Melilla and Ceuta. This meeting occurred at a time when Spain is living in an election atmosphere that is described as “hot”, and in light of the good relations it has with the Kingdom of Morocco.

Jose Manuel Albaris discussed, in the meeting, held on Friday, with Margaritas Schinas, the upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, which Spain will assume, without any reference to the issue of the cities of Melilla and Ceuta, according to their tweets on Twitter. In this context, he said. The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, in a tweet to him on “Twitter”, “We talked about the upcoming Spanish presidency of the European Union and dealt with issues such as the phenomenon of migration, education and digital training as strategic priorities for the European Union”.

The Vice-President of the European Commission tweeted to him, saying, “We want to strengthen strategic partnerships, which will be a source of stability, prosperity, and opportunities for Europeans and people around the world”.

Alparis and Chinas did not issue any statement about the controversy that arose about the Moroccanness of the occupied cities of Ceuta and Melilla, nor about the protest expressed by Morocco. His participation in the European Summit of Foreign Ministers in Brussels, Ceuta, and Melilla with the “two Europeans”, which Morocco considered a slippage, and expressed its protest and rejection of his statements, which were described as “hostile”.
