During their meeting in Cairo, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi and his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Ghazouani called for an immediate ceasefire between the warring parties in Sudan to put an end to the deadly clashes.

Indeed, the official Egyptian news agency MENA reported that the two leaders urged all Sudanese parties to put the interests of the nation and its people first and to use their wisdom to protect them as best they can.

The two heads of state called for the intensification of efforts to help the Sudanese people and alleviate their suffering.

Since 15th April, Sudan has been the scene of deadly clashes between the regular Sudanese army and paramilitary units of the Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum and other regions.

During their meeting, the two Heads of State also discussed other regional issues, such as the consequences of the impasse in negotiations over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on water security in Africa.
