Apprehension has taken hold of the people of Ondo State as they grow increasingly concerned about the current condition of their governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu.

Sources indicate that Akeredolu’s health has recently undergone a significant decline, sparking anxiety among state residents, particularly his loyalists and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor has been grappling with an undisclosed illness for some time now, and in January, his wife, Betty, raised an alarm about the alleged actions of Mrs. Bunmi Ademosu in caring for Akeredolu.

In a widely circulated WhatsApp voice note, Mrs. Akeredolu accused Mrs. Ademosu of clandestinely introducing concoctions into the governor’s residence and sternly warned her to cease such alleged activities.

Recently, the governor embarked on his annual leave, which extended for several weeks, fueling rumors that he used this period to attend to his deteriorating health, however, rumors persist that the governor has yet to overcome his health challenges, which sources claim are worsening.

In light of these circumstances, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state has expressed concern over the secrecy surrounding the governor’s health and decried the unexpected silence from the governor’s camp and the APC in Ondo State.

In a statement issued in the state capital of Akure, the party’s state chairman, Mr. Stephen Adewale, emphasized that Akeredolu’s medical records should not be shrouded in secrecy. Adewale stated, “In the past 24 hours, the rumor surrounding Governor Akeredolu’s declining health has dominated the media and spread rapidly throughout Ondo State.”

While it is already known that Governor Akeredolu is contending with health issues, as highlighted in the viral voice note released by Ondo State’s First Lady, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, in recent weeks, rumors regarding the governor’s battle with blood cancer, his bedridden condition, and his inability to sign documents have taken center stage.

Ondo SDP had eagerly anticipated that the governor would refute these rumors by making a public appearance. However, the silence emanating from the governor’s camp and the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State is disconcerting and alarming.
