The vice-president of the Gender Committee of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Khadija Arouhal, intervened Monday in Johannesburg during a seminar under the theme “Accelerating the Zlecaf: the strategic importance of the PAP”, held on the sidelines of the second ordinary session of the sixth legislature of the PAP.

The Progress and Socialism Party (PSP) deputy said that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) constitutes for the Kingdom of Morocco a priority project for the development of Africa.

Mrs. Arouhal indicated that Morocco has constantly called for the implementation of the AfCFTA, which is a project that comes from the common will of African countries and is in their mutual interest.

Stressing that only 29 African countries have so far approved the free trade agreement, the MP highlighted the importance of this large-scale African project as a mechanism for strengthening the new development model based on innovation, economic diversification, and African solidarity.

For his part, Brian Mureverwi, Senior Trade Adviser in the AU Commission’s Department of Economic Development, Trade, Industry, and Mining, called on African countries to invest within the continent by taking advantage of the opportunities offered by Zlecaf, which addresses the problem of the continent’s trade information deficit.
