The work of the joint commission (6+6), tasked by the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State, to develop electoral laws for the legislative and presidential elections in Libya, began on Monday in Bouznika.

This meeting aims to draft laws to organize legislative and presidential elections, by the roadmap announced at the end of February by UN envoy Abdallah Batili. The Libyan delegations and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) are meeting in Bouznika starting this Monday as part of consultation meetings.

Morocco continues its efforts to find a definitive solution to the Libyan crisis to guarantee the unity, stability, and progress of Libya by supporting its actions to organize elections within a comprehensive, inclusive, and pragmatic framework.

The Bouznika meeting is part of a series of meetings hosted by the Kingdom, bringing together different Libyan parties to deepen the dialogue on ways and means to settle the crisis in the country, following an approach that promotes the appropriate space for dialogue and constructive consultation.

These meetings have resulted in significant agreements that have helped drive the settlement process, including the Skhirat Agreement (2015) and the agreement between the President of the House of Representatives, Akila Saleh, and the President of the Libyan High Council of State, Khalid El Machri, in October 2022 regarding the implementation of the outcomes of the Bouznika process concerning sovereign positions and the unification of executive power.

Morocco advocates that the Libyan people should be allowed to select their political leaders through presidential and legislative elections to establish legitimacy in Libya.
