In a recent development, Seun Kuti, the renowned afrobeat singer, has had his remand extended by four days, following an application granted by the Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Chief Magistrate Mrs. Adeola Olatubosun approved the extension, scheduling Kuti’s remand until May 22nd. The application, presented by Mr. Simon Lough (SAN), who led a legal team from the police, was made to allow for further investigation into the case.

The alleged offense took place on May 13th, on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. It has been reported that Kuti is facing charges for slapping an inspector after driving recklessly on the bridge and intentionally obstructing a moving police vehicle. Following his arraignment on Tuesday, the chief magistrate initially ordered a 48-hour remand for Kuti.

However, she also ruled that the defendant should be eligible for bail upon the completion of the remand period, requiring a sum of one million Naira and two sureties of equal value. Notably, one of the sureties must be a landlord residing within the jurisdiction of the court.

This extension of Seun Kuti’s remand signifies the court’s decision to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter. The proceedings have attracted significant attention due to the involvement of a prominent figure in the music industry. As the legal process unfolds, the public eagerly awaits further updates on this case.
