The electoral campaign for the legislative, regional, and municipal elections closes on 11 May, with the novelty this year of requiring parties to present a national list of young people, with candidates aged under 35.

Another novelty: these three national lists will also have to include at least two people with disabilities.

Thus, a ballot paper will be dedicated to young people on election day, which will allow a better representation of young people in the national assembly.

This is one of the last major events of the traditional opposition party RFD. Thus, this new list will allow 11 seats to be dedicated to young deputies, which is a victory for young people, says a candidate of the national youth list.

For this young candidate, this opportunity and this political commitment will change many things so that they will be able to pass on the issues that concern the people, such as unemployment, the lack of training centers, etc.

On the side of the party, Boost for the Youth, a candidate for deputation underlined that the challenge of these elections is also to interest young people, using social networks.

In Mauritania, more than 78% of the population is between 14 and 35 years old. Mauritanians are expected to elect 176 deputies, 15 regional councils, and 238 municipal councils, with 25 parties competing for the votes of nearly 1.8 million voters.
