Cameroon Hopes to Attract More Chinese Investments

The Director of Foreign Trade at the Cameroonian Ministry of Trade, Joseph Mutomby Ndumbe, underlined, on Tuesday in Yaounde, Cameroon’s desire to attract more Chinese investments on the occasion of the third China-Africa Economic and Trade Exhibition which will soon be held in China.

The meeting was dedicated to the promotion of the upcoming China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.

In this regard, Mr. Ndumbe stressed that Cameroon wants to take advantage of this opportunity to establish partnerships with Chinese companies and convince them to come and invest in Cameroon.

Thus, the official added that his country intends to exhibit products “Made in Cameroon” such as Penja pepper, Oku White Honny, cocoa, and coffee.

For his part, Yang Zhihua, deputy mayor of the city of Yiyang, in the Chinese province of Hunan, said the two countries have enormous potential for cooperation in the areas of agricultural development, energy, infrastructure, and communication.

Thus, Mr. Zhihua invited the Cameroonian government, companies, business associations, and think tanks to participate in the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.

The third China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo will be held in Hunan Province from June 29 to July 2, 2023.

It should be noted that China is Cameroon’s largest trading partner, accounting for 25.8% of Cameroon’s total exports and 17% of its total imports in 2021, which attests to the strength of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
