In Niger, terrorist groups on Sunday detonated a mine that killed seven Nigerien soldiers traveling in a vehicle in the Tillabéri region (west).

In this regard, a statement from the NGN, attached to the Ministry of the Interior and at the forefront of the fight against jihadists, said that a vehicle of the weekly escort mission of supplies jumped on a gold mine about 6 km from the village of Samira, near the border with Burkina Faso.

In this context, the Nigerien government has been taking action against jihadist groups linked to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) since February 2022.

Niger also faces the deadly actions of Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP) in its southeastern part.

In its fight against the jihadists, Niger benefits from the support of several Western countries including France and the United States, which have military bases there. Niger is a key ally of France in the Sahel, as it hosts some 2,000 French soldiers.
