A 3-day regional workshop on “The dynamics of appropriation of the approach and tools of prevention” in the face of the expansion of terrorism, opened on Thursday in Lomé, with the participation of security experts, defense officials of the member countries of the Entente Council, national and local elected officials, local community representatives and academics.

This workshop is organized under the auspices of the countries of the Entente Council (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, and Togo).

Speaking on the occasion, the Togolese Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Yark Damehame, said that terrorist groups exploit border areas as strategic zones to carry out their attacks or to establish themselves permanently.

Mr. Damehame stressed that this reality imposes the need to address the causes of violent extremism, to provide concrete preventive responses.

Thus, the Minister warned against the progressive expansion of violent extremism, which has gone beyond the Sahel to the Gulf of Guinea.
