In Guinea, A man has long embodied the brutality of the repression that fell on the opposition at the Conakry stadium on September 28th, 2009.

Thierno Mamadou Diallo was at the helm of the criminal court of Dixinn where, for 7 months, 11 defendants have been tried for their alleged role in the massacre which left more than 150 dead. Former junta leader Moussa Dadis Camara is among the accused.

Thirteen years later, Guinea rediscovers the face of Thierno Mamadou Diallo, a little more wrinkled, but the beard necklace is still there, now graying. “We stayed there, we observed a lot of things, people screaming, until there was shooting…”, says the witness.

Mamadou testified in Pulaar and an interpreter translated it into French. Security forces rounded him up in a pick-up and brought him back against his will to the stadium.

At the Court, an interpreter presents a snapshot depicting Thierno Mamadou flanked by two green berets who are firmly holding him near the Conakry stadium. A violent kick subjects him to terror, clearly visible on his face.
