Floods victims: More than a Hundred Dead in the West and North of Rwanda

Rwanda is a country regularly victim of floods and landslides. Heavy rains during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, May 3rd caused the death of 127 people in several districts inside the country, according to the provisional report.

In the evening and the night of Tuesday, the rains began, causing floods and landslides in the provinces of the south, west, and north of the country.

Authorities have recorded more than a hundred deaths, houses have been destroyed, fields have been flooded, and roads have been cut off.

Floods and landslides during the rainy season are common in Rwanda. The authorities had recorded 60 deaths linked to bad weather between January and April, but local media reports indicate that this episode is the deadliest reported recently.

On the eve of the floods, the Rwandan meteorological agency issued a warning on the importance of seasonal rains in May. The inhabitants of the area did not expect that such precipitation would surprise them in their sleep.
