The Senegalese Democratic Party (SDP) of former Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade expressed on Friday its willingness to participate in the political dialogue requested by the Senegalese head of state, Macky Sall.

The former deputy Tafsir Thioye stressed that this is the first time that the Senegalese president addresses the “settlement of the arbitrary and unfair situation of Karim Wade”, one of the leaders of the SDP.

However, the former deputy Tafsir Thioye stressed that this is the first time that the Senegalese president addresses the “settlement of the arbitrary and unfair situation of Karim Wade”, one of the leaders of the PDS, depriving him of candidacy in the 2019 presidential election.

Karim Wade, a former minister, was sentenced to 6 years for fraud on public funds and illicit enrichment, then he was granted a presidential pardon after 3 years and was released.

Last Saturday, Macky Sall mentioned, during the show ”Yoon Wi” of the private radio RFM, the former mayor of Dakar, Khalifa SaIl, and Karim Wade as potential beneficiaries, among others, of the bill of amnesty prepared by his government in 2022 to restore their voting rights.

Khalifa Sall was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for fraud involving public funds and was also pardoned by President Macky Sall.

The SDP expects to know the contours and details of the dialogue with the political parties, although the main points of discussion have been mentioned by the Head of State, namely the amnesty of facts concerning Mr. Khalifa Sall and the review of the trial of Karim Wade.

The SDP also hopes that “a contradictory audit of the electoral file, under the supervision of the United States, the European Union, and the African Union”, will be added to “the agenda” of the dialogue desired by Macky Sall.
