The Independent National Commission on Human Rights has confirmed on Twitter that former Burundian Prime Minister Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni has been arrested.

The CNIDH said it has spoken to him and visited him, adding that he is in good health and has not been subjected to any act of torture or abuse.

However, the reasons for his arrest have still not been disclosed.

The former prime minister had been wanted for some time. Moreover, the authorities searched three of his properties on 17 April, but they did not communicate the reasons for this procedure.

It should be recalled that Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni was dismissed from office last September.
