The secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, has urged Cabinet ministers to end their power struggle over control of the energy sector.

Fikile Mbalula, the Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), has called on Cabinet ministers to stop their disagreements over control of the energy sector.

Tensions reportedly arose between Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe, and Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan concerning the powers given to Ramokgopa to end load shedding.

Ramokgopa will present his report to the ANC during the national executive committee meeting over the weekend. Speaking to the media, Mbalula emphasized the importance of Cabinet ministers prioritizing their job of ensuring a stable energy supply, and he urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action.

Mbalula also supported calls for Ramokgopa to be given more powers to address load shedding. He stressed the need for concrete measures to increase the country’s energy generation capacity, rather than political infighting.

The ANC hopes that the president will intervene to end the ongoing power struggle and prioritize the energy sector.
