The decree of general mobilization was signed on Wednesday by the President of the transition of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The decree, which lasts for one year, allows the requisition of young people of “18 years or older” to defend the country against jihadist violence.

Captain Ibrahim Traore said Wednesday that physically able youths will be called upon as needed by the competent authorities to join the defense and security forces.

According to an article of the decree, the populations can benefit from the supervision of the defense and security forces to defend their localities from any terrorist threat.

The decree called for public or private initiatives in the fight against terrorism to benefit areas of high-security challenge.

It also stipulates that “individual and collective rights and freedoms guaranteed by laws and regulations may in certain cases be restricted or limited”.

It should be recalled that in December, Captain Traoré had obtained the green light from the Constitutional Council to issue this decree.

In the same context, the President of the Transition created a National Coordination for the Fight against Terrorism (CNCT), under the authority of Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambela.
