The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to call for the investigation and possible prosecution of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Hudu Ari. The decision was reached at a technical meeting attended by national commissioners of INEC in Abuja on Tuesday.

The commission plans to write the Inspector General of Police, Baba Ahmed, to investigate and prosecute the REC, as well as write to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, to brief the President about the action of the REC.

According to a tweet on INEC’s Twitter handle, the commission also decided that the collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer.

The decision comes after INEC ordered Ari to stay away from its office in Adamawa, following the REC’s declaration of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate as the governor-elect in Saturday’s supplementary election before the conclusion of the collation process.
