The first edition of the African Poetry Festival will be organised from May 5 to 7 in Rabat by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the House of Poetry.

This cultural event is part of the celebration of Rabat as the capital of African culture.

This festival, which aims to celebrate African poetry in all its diversity, will take place in several cultural and artistic spaces in the city of Rabat, said a statement from the ministry.

This cultural event is also a tribute paid by Morocco to Africa, the continent of poetry. This kind of literature allows Man to dream and express himself in freedom, far from war, the statement continued.

During this festival, poetic and musical events, as well as conferences and writing workshops and poetry recitals are on the agenda.

This edition will also be marked by tributes to several African poets and the awarding, for the first time, of the African Poetry Prize, which this year will bear the name of the Senegalese poet Léopold Sédar Senghor.

The winner of this prize will be announced on 5 May during the opening ceremony.
