UN calls on Mali to “Accelerate” the Transition to Civilians

In a report to the Security Council, UN Secretary-General Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Mali’s military junta to “accelerate” the pace of transferring power to elected civilians elected by early 2024.

In the report, Mr. Guterres also expressed concern about the continuing violence in Mali, which is suffering from the spread of jihadists from northern Mali in 2012.
