For several weeks, discontent has been rising in Guinea over power cuts. Violent demonstrations broke out in particular in Kankan and Conakry. This April 10th, 2023, at the headquarters of the public supplier, Electricity of Guinea (EDG), the general manager of the company made a long update. During a press conference, Laye Sékou Camara tried to restore communication and appease the spirits.

In Conakry, we should no longer say the word “shedding”, according to EDG! “The load shedding is done when there is a lack of production, but we have production, so we do not offload anyone. ” There are many power cuts, but these are inevitable, assures Laye Sékou Camara, the DG of Electricity of Guinea: “People have to understand that, yes, there are cuts, but these are cuts for works. »

EDG says it wants to improve its outage management

The distribution network is in poor condition and requires interventions. “We have contracts with companies. Some time was required to complete the work before the winter season. So these companies, today, work hard and ask us for cuts every day, to be able to finish the job. So what is causing the cuts in certain neighborhoods today ”.
