The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, will appear next week before Congress to answer questions from MPs about recent controversial statements by the President of the House of Councilors in Morocco, Enaam Mayara, parliamentary sources assured the agency EFE.

Mayara, the fourth personage of the State, claimed that Ceuta and Melilla had been “colonized” by Spain and that talks should be held to “recover” them during a gathering organized by the Istiqlal, the women’s group of his party.

The government’s response in Madrid did not take long to manifest. During a televised interview, the local defense minister Margarita Robles reaffirmed “with absolute and whole force” that “Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish and there is nothing else to talk about on this topic.”
